MP's turbine meeting attended by 40-plus
The meeting in Lyng village hall with our MP George Freeman took place last Friday, March 22.
Reports are that it was a useful meeting at which some very interesting details of grounds for opposition were outlined. Suggestions are that it may not now be considred by Breckland Planners before May.
BACKGROUNDThe 77 metre high wind turbine is planned on land at Cherry Tree Farm, Primrose Green.
The turbine will be sited on Blind Lane, Primrose Green some 300 metres east of Heath Road. It is a large unit at 77 metres high - mot as tall as the big one at Swaffham which is 105metres. It will generate 500 kw of electricity - enough the applicants say to power 332 homes. They tell us this is nearly all the houses in Lyng but of course the energy goes into the national grid. Be clear - this application is for ONE turbine on a site measuring .29 of a hectare. There is no mention of a larger site or more turbines at this time. The applicants are Engena Ltd, a renewable energy specialist on behalf of Bawdeswell and Cherry Tree Partners. The application is due to be discussed by Breckland Planner in February. It has been put in on behalf of the above partnership which is listed as based at Bawdeswell Hall, home of Mr Richard Gurney. Originally the council web site said views needed to be in by December 17 and that the decision had been made! BUT this is wrong and has been corrected - the deadline is now late in January and the council planners will discuss it at their meeting on February 11. For full details follow THIS LINK. |
Breckland calls for more information
![]() This gives an idea of what the turbine might
look like in the landscape.
Breckland Council next Planning Committee meeting is on April 8. Breckland planners have written to the applicant requesting further information. The letter dated 7th February from Chris Raine is available on the Breckland Council website. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Past news: Lyng parish council voted 4-2 in favour of objecting to the plan for the 77 metre wind turbine at Blind Lane, Primrose Green just two kilometres from the village. The Lyng village meeting was one of the biggest ever held with 57 members of the public packing Lyng village hall. Some were standing at the back. District Councillor Gordon Bambridge and County Councillor Bill Borrett addressed the crowd about the planning process. At the end of the discussion, the chair of Lyng PC Camilla Davis took a straw vote of the public view. Only two of the 57 members of the public present were in favour of the proposed turbine. A resolution to object was passed by 4 to 2 without need of the Chairman’s vote. The grounds for objection fall generally under: health, visual impact, noise & flicker & proximity to dwellings. Hockering, Weston Longville, Sparham and Great Witchingham have voted to oppose the application. |

Fox: More newsLatest news is that the pub sign was removed and re-painting of the exterior is taking place now. This fits with what Enterprise said that a new landlord has been appointed and that some work had to be done. Well, fingers remain crossed.

Just a bit of indulgence for dog lovers - a PBVG wins Crufts! That's a petit griffon basset vendeen to you and one just like our own Ollie.
Soletrader Peek a Boo (Jilly) took Crufts Champion for her owner Gavin Robertson - seen here when they won the Hound Group earlier in the week. Bad news of course is that now you can't afford one! Gavin doesn't mind though. Well done all of them. |

Down by the river something stirs....
This water quality monitoring equipment has been installed by the Environment Agency down by the upper weir on Lyng Road, Pockthorpe. Nice to know they keep an eye on "our "river.

Floodlit Norwich Cathedral
Took this a week or two back when we visited the cathedral for a lecture - not on religion though. This was Prof. Simon Morris on the science of evolution with some reference to its impact on faith.
